We may have been busy revitalising Britains railway for over 10 years, but Network Rails plans for the next five includes around 5,000 exciting new projects. Indeed, we are investing 38bn in the railway by 2019 alone to deliver more frequent, reliable and safer services plus brighter and better stations. Our Safety, Technical & Engineering (STE) Group will continue to play its part as a ‘Centre of Expertise' that provides high quality safety, technical and engineering leadership to the business.

Asset management, engineering, safety, health and wellness and the environment and sustainable development – all of these will come under the STE spotlight. As Climate Change Adaptation Strategy Manager, you’ll take the strategic lead in developing the organisation’s weather resilience and climate change adaptation strategy and objectives. We’ll also rely on you to provide the expertise and procedural setting within a framework that will deliver that strategy. This will include developing a framework for the delivery of weather and climate change projections and the business response and integrating weather and climate thresholds into business processes. Acting as a subject matter expert and advisor to the business will be important too, as will determining competency/capability and research & development requirements. Put simply, you’ll be instrumental in bringing improvements in the weather resilience of railway operations in the short, medium and long term.

As well as a relevant degree, you’ll need detailed knowledge of weather resilience and climate change adaptation within transport and/or infrastructure businesses. We’ll also be looking for experience of developing strategy relating to weather resilience and climate change in a complex organisation and an excellent understanding of the relevant legislation and regulations. Adept at engaging with and influencing senior business leaders and policy makers, you’re also used to leading staff/teams to deliver results. To apply, please click here to visit our website.

Closing date: 18 March 2016. Network Rail welcomes applications from a diverse range of candidates regardless of background, disability or gender and is committed to interviewing all applicants who declare a disability and meet the essential criteria advertised. We are ‘two ticks’ accredited and we continue to strive to create a workforce as diverse as the communities we serve.
