Description
Deadline: 9 March 2014. The Post-Doctoral fellow will be responsible for research and developmental activities on scaling out climate smart technologies in South Asia, and for developing a model for adaptation/mitigation prioritisation. This position will report to the Regional Program Leader of CCAFS South Asia and will be based in the New Delhi Office of IWMI in India.
 
You will:
  •  Work with multi-disciplinary teams, including agricultural engineers,   agricultural economists, biologists, and hydrologists to  develop and apply tools/methodologies to scale-out climate-smart agriculture in South Asia;
  • Conduct research on prioritizing adaptation/mitigation interventions using bio-physical and economic modelling tools;
  • Raise the capacity of NARS systems in South Asia on climate change research and development; and
  • Co-author journal articles and disseminate findings through different channels.
You must possess:
  •  Excellent written and spoken English;
  •  A PhD in Soil Physics, Agricultural Engineering, or related disciplines preferably with expertise in crop/hydrological models and their applications in solving developmental problems;
  • The ability to handle and process large socio-economic and geospatial datasets;
  • Good knowledge of GIS/RS and programming;
  • The ability to run integrated modeling approaches such as hydro-bio-economic modeling, 
  • Experience in scaling out climate smart technologies; 
  • The ability to work in a team with people from different cultural and professional backgrounds; and
  • Strong analytical skills and a learning attitude
  • Willingness to travel.
It would be useful if you have:
  • Work experience in any South Asia countries;
  • Knowledge of climate change adaptation policies and adaptation prioritization in agriculture; 
  • Understanding of climate-smart practices, such as nutrient management, water management, carbon management, agro-advisories, insurance and weather forecasting; and 
  • Sound knowledge of statistics, research methods, and field surveys.
