Role purpose:

To lead/join a team of consultants at all levels working in the field of climate change impacts, risk and adaptation.
AEA is building a growing portfolio of projects connected to adapting to climate change, working for customers in the public and private sectors. Our current UK customer base includes central Government departments (Defra, DFID, BERR), Devolved Administrations, Government Agencies, Regional Bodies and Local Authorities. We also work at the European and International level in this area, including for the European Commission, the EEA, International Agencies and on in-country assignments in China, Russia and Africa. We work on climate change impacts and adaptation in a range of sectors, including international development, health, transport, energy, local authority services, biodiversity, agriculture, water, and the built environment.
You would be required to contribute substantially to growing this portfolio, developing proposals, winning work, building customer relationships, training and developing the skills of the team, managing projects and delivering high quality project outputs on time and to budget.

Technical / Functional SkillsEssential

· A proven track record in some aspect of climate change adaptation
· Strong current understanding of policy and technical issues relating to adaptation
· Experience of developing and managing climate change policy and/or research projects
· Experience working with climate change scenario and impacts data
· Specific experience relating to one or more of the following sectors: international development, built environment, energy, transport, water, social and economic impacts of climate change
· Ability to communicate at all levels and to present climate change information to non-specialists

Desirable

· Stakeholder consultation skills
· Training and capacity building skills
· Advanced excel and database manipulation
· Experience in vulnerability mapping or modelling


Ideal Person:

· Has been developing climate change adaptation research or policy in a consultancy, public sector or research organisation
· Is recognised as a leader in this field
· Has established relationships with some of the customer groups mentioned above
· Is keen to develop multi-disciplinary skills and apply existing knowledge and experience into new sectors or areas
· Is commercially aware and keen to build AEA?s business in climate change adaptation and climate risk management
