Description

We are currently looking for an innovative Data Visualisation Designer to work with our Climate Action Tracker team. The Climate Action Tracker is an independent scientific analysis that measures government climate action against the globally agreed aim of holding warming below 2°C of warming. It is produced by four research organisations: Climate Analytics, Ecofys, NewClimate Institute and Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research.

Duties and responsibilities

The designer will consult with our CAT researchers to produce data visualisations. Candidates should be comfortable analysing and manipulating large data sets to extract data stories, and excel at using visualisation techniques to communicate insight. Strong communications skills are essential, as the designer will routinely interface with key internal subject-matter experts at all levels. Candidates should be comfortable analysing and visualising scientific data. The designer must have expert command of Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Excel.

Your Profile

  • BA in Visual Communications, Journalism or Graphic Design, with coursework in Infographics, Data Visualization or Data Science;
  • 1-3 years’ experience visualising data;
  • Knowledge of and experience with interpreting and visualising scientific data;
  • Experience in data reporting, able to interview subject-matter experts and find the right information;
  • Clean design aesthetic with solid grasp of data-driven design;
  • Team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Intellectual curiosity, creative-problem solving and an enthusiasm for finding stories in data;
  • Candidates must have expert level skills in Excel and Adobe Illustrator.
  • Skills in web design and programming are a plus.

Candidates must submit an online portfolio of data visualization work.

Conditions

Starting date: As soon as possible
Location: Berlin
Terms: Fixed term contract for four months. Part time, about 15h per week. Longer term collaboration possible depending on performance and availability of project funding.
