Description |
Dept: Vice-Chancellor's Office Starting from £26,715, rising to £32,817 Fixed-term Contract, Full-time Ref: CC7992 Make a real difference in the New Year! This is a great opportunity to put your knowledge of carbon accounting in to practice, helping the University of Bath understand its scope 3 emissions in detail, and developing a programme to tackle them. In May, the University of Bath declared a Climate Emergency and set out 11 Climate Action Framework Principles to frame our response, including our commitment to being net zero carbon in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, a 50% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2030, and net zero carbon by 2040. A new Climate Action team is now being established, with a clear remit detailed in our Climate Action Framework. Under the leadership of the Climate Action Project Lead and working closely with the Procurement team you will work through the University’s data to develop a clear picture of our scope 3 emissions. Measurement of Scope 3 emissions is inherently complex; new datasets will be required in some areas and quantifying these emissions may require an iterative process. This measurement challenge is not unique to the higher education sector, and you would be expected to take advantage of known best practice approaches, whilst also engaging in sector-specific initiatives, for example through the EAUC. From this initial analysis, you will work with the Climate Action team to develop recommendations for priority areas, develop and then implement an emissions reduction plan. Our Scope 3 emissions are someone else’s Scope 1 and 2, so addressing these emissions requires engagement across the University community and within our supply chains. This role would suit someone who is detailed and methodical, with an understanding of carbon accounting methodology. You will need to be self-motivated, with a strong understanding of the case for climate action, and the ability to communicate this knowledge. This role is a full-time role, for a fixed-term period until July 2022. Closing date: 10 January 2021. Interviews will be held w/b 1 February 2021.
