Climate Action Project Lead

Dept: Vice-Chancellor's Office

Starting from £51,034, rising to £59,135 pro rata

Ref: CC7991

Make a real difference in the New Year!

This is a great opportunity to make a real difference by leading the implementation of the University of Bath’s Climate Action Framework, our whole institution response to the Climate Emergency.

In May, the University of Bath declared a Climate Emergency and set out 11 Climate Action Framework Principles to frame our response, including our commitment to being net zero carbon in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, a 50% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2030, and net zero carbon by 2040.

A new Climate Action team is now being established, with a clear remit detailed in our Climate Action Framework. This offers an exciting opportunity for you to shape the priorities, and have an impact across the University, enabling our transition to a low carbon community.

The remit of this role spans across the University, addressing how we transition our site to a zero carbon campus, tackling our scope 3 emissions, a staff carbon literacy programme and influencing behaviour to support low carbon decision-making. Our unique role as an anchor institution, provides opportunities to amplify the impact of this work by seeking opportunities to integrate research, learning and teaching opportunities into our approach across these themes.

Under the strategic guidance of the Climate Action Chair and Steering Group, the CA Project Lead will provide skilled leadership, change management and climate change expertise to drive forward our vision and plans to transition to a low carbon University.

This role would suit someone who is an independent thinker, and passionate about climate change. You will need a strong understanding of the case for climate action, an ability to communicate this knowledge and excellent influencing skills, to facilitate change across our community, whilst ensuring that the approach taken considers broader sustainability issues and the concept of a Just Transition.

This role is a full-time role, although a part-time role would be considered, for a fixed-term period until July 2022.

Closing date: 10 January 2021.

Interviews will take place w/b 25 January 2021.
