Description

Gloucestershire County Council are dedicated to safeguarding biodiversity and improving Gloucestershire’s landscapes for the future. We are seeking a talented, knowledgeable, and motivated Climate Action Officer to join our growing Sustainability Team and develop our Biodiversity Net Gain and Local Nature Recovery Strategy approaches.

You will be a self-motivated individual with excellent project management, partnership and development skills who is passionate about the natural environment and reducing the impact of climate change. You will have broad knowledge of biodiversity legislation in the UK and the responsibilities of lead local authorities in enacting this. This high-profile role will be responsible for project delivery including:

  • Delivering the councils obligations in relation to environmental legislation, including the Environment Act 2021 and the requirements of the Biodiversity Duty in conjunction with the Council’s Principal Ecologist.
  • Supporting the Local Nature Partnership on the creation and implementation of a Local Nature Recovery Strategy, advising, collating and reporting on Biodiversity Net Gain across the county.
  • Developing a forward-thinking approach to maximise opportunities for generating natural capital and climate positive landscape management.
  • Managing partnerships across the County, implementing, measuring, and tracking project and programme success.
