Description |
Climate & Energy Programme – Lawyer (Energy & Competition) (London or Brussels) ABOUT THE ROLE This exciting and challenging role is designed for an experienced lawyer to make a pivotal contribution to developing and delivering our Climate & Energy Programme. The focus of the role is to lead our thinking and advocacy concerning the role of EU State aid law in driving the European energy decarbonisation process, with a particular focus on the power sector. The successful candidate will be required to analyse the relevant legal, policy and political terrain; identify and exploit opportunities for intervention by ClientEarth at EU and relevant national venues across Europe; and engage proactively with a wide range of civil society partners and stakeholders in government and industry. In addition to a specialized focus on State aid law, the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to engage more widely in EU energy law issues, and will be involved in follow up to the recent Roadmaps to Reality project (European Climate Foundation) including assessing the legal and legislative implications of the recommendations for power sector decarbonisation. The role will offer the scope to provide thought leadership concerning how best to develop our work in this challenging context.
This role can be based in ClientEarth’s London or Brussels offices but if based in London, will involve frequent travel to Brussels. ABOUT YOU The successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record in law and will be ready to contribute to strategic legal thinking, advocacy and creative problem solving in a public interest law setting. You should have a strong understanding of EU climate and energy law and EU State aid and Competition law and ideally a broad understanding of EU environmental law and public law. You should also have the skills to work in an interdisciplinary context, and to apply your knowledge to influence legal and policy development at EU and national levels. More generally, the successful candidate will be adaptable, resilient and able to take initiative to collaborate with others to develop relationships and strategies. You are also committed to environmental issues and to urgent action on climate change. ABOUT US ClientEarth is a public interest environmental law group founded in 2007.
