Climate & Energy Campaign Summer Internship

Oceana’s Climate & Energy Campaign is providing college students with an exciting internship opportunity this summer. The Internship will give students invaluable experience in grassroots issue advocacy and the opportunity to make an impact in moving the U.S. towards a clean energy future. 
About the Campaign:
    
Based on the direct impacts of offshore oil drilling and its contributions to climate change, Oceana is working to: 
                 
Prevent the expansion of offshore drilling to the east coast
Prioritize the development of offshore wind power in place of offshore drilling 
Promote energy efficiency and the use of clean renewable sources of energy

 

About the Internship:
 
As an intern with Oceana’s Climate & Energy Campaign, you will help bring about the transition to a clean energy future. Your primary focus will be advancing offshore wind power development off the coast of Long Island. You will work with new and existing volunteers and coalition partners to help build strong grassroots support for offshore wind power in the region.
Responsibilities:  

  • Dedicate 10-15 hours per week to the campaign; starts mid/late May and runs thru August
  • Master core message of the campaign and communicate this message effectively
  • Attend weekly internal meetings and hold bi-weekly volunteer group meetings
  • Recruit and activate new and existing volunteers
  • Manage petition collection campaign and generate local earned media
  • Assist in the development and execution of a large-scale public media event
  • Assist with other campaign projects as needed
 Preferred Qualifications:    
           
  • Working towards Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field of study
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Organized and proactive with an attention to detail
  • Ability to work remotely and travel to various locations in Long Island and NYC
  • Energetic and enthusiastic with a strong desire to engage the public and make a difference
