Cleaner – General staff

Location: Wales Institute for Sustainable Education at Centre for Alternative Technology
Hours: 40 hours per week.

Salary: £5.80 per hour
Responsible to: WISE Facilities Manager
Responsible for: None
Liaises with: Caretakers, Courses and Events Departments
 
Scope
 
The Centre for Alternative Technology (
CAT) demonstrates ecologically sustainable methods and technology to the public from its 40-acre site in the hills of West Wales. It aims to inspire, inform and enable society to move towards a more sustainable future. The Centre is managed along cooperative principles.
In June 2010 the new WISE building was opened. The building will host residential courses, conferences, meetings and other events.
The building has 24 double bedrooms, a 200-seat lecture theatre, a bar and foyer and seminar and classrooms. In addition there are 12 other bedrooms sleeping 31 in two other buildings on site.
 
Responsibilities

  • To work with the Facilities Manager and Caretaker to agree a schedule to maintain high standards of cleanliness
  • To clean all residential facilities daily, including floors, toilets and showers
  • To prepare bedrooms on change over days, including bed making
  • To clean all public areas to a schedule agreed with the Facilities Manager
  • To adhere to CAT’s environmental policy with regard to cleaning products
  • To assist with annual cleaning during the January closed period


Co-operative Responsibilities

  • to attend staff and other meetings as required and assist other colleagues in their cooperative management duties
  • to undertake cooperative rota duties
  • to comply with health and safety requirements
  • to undertake any other duties as requested by the Management Group

Essential Criteria      

Previous cleaning experience

  • good organisational and time management skills
  • enthusiastic and positive disposition
  • ability to work as part of a team or under own initiative
  • ability to work with people at all levels within and external to the organisation
  • ability to undertake and tolerance of dealing with routine tasks
  • understanding of environmental issues related to cleaning product selection
  • general awareness of Health and Safety issues.   

Desirable Criteria

  • first aid training.
  • Welsh speaker or willingness to learn
