The ICCT seeks a highly motivated and self-directed person to contribute to a wide range of policy-relevant research. Topics include tailpipe emission standards for passenger cars and commercial trucks, fuel quality standards, emission control strategies for vehicles in-use, control of short-lived climate pollutants, and related policies.  This position will be located in our San Francisco, California office.

Position Responsibilities

  • Research and critically assess best practice policies and strategies for reducing real-world emissions in the transportation sector;
  • Write concise technical memos in response to time-sensitive inquiries received from vehicle regulators in rapidly developing countries such as China, India, Brazil, Mexico and others;
  • Develop and implement outreach strategies to communicate the work of the ICCT via workshops, digital media, and other communication channels;
  • Develop and maintaining relationships with respected international experts, government officials, and local organizations in key regions;
  • Represent the ICCT at technical conferences and make presentations in international policy fora; and
  • Collaborate with ICCT staff on emerging projects based on need.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 1-2 years of equivalent work experience in engineering, chemistry, biology, physics, public health, economics, public policy, or related field;
  • Demonstrated interest in climate change, air quality, energy, environment, public health, or related topics; familiarity with environmental and energy challenges in the transportation sector preferred;
  • Prior experience working in an international setting or researching international topics is a plus;
  • Excellent and demonstrated quantitative, analytical, and research skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and English communication skills, both written and verbal, plus reading and writing proficiency in a second language strongly preferred;
  • Great organization and collaboration skills, combined with flexibility and a positive attitude; and
  • Some domestic and international travel required.

Salary and Benefits

Annual salary will vary depending on experience. A generous benefits package is provided, including a 5% salary contribution for retirement, employer-paid medical/vision/dental, and life insurance.  We also offer generous paid vacation and leave policies.
