Greenpeace Canada is seeking an experienced network coordinator to help outreach to new audiences and to coordinate and engage a diverse network of cross-sectoral groups, unions and First Nations.

Job Vacancy: Clean Economy Network & Outreach Coordinator
Location: Edmonton
Reports to: Head of Energy Campaign
Contract Details: Full-time till end of 2015

The Clean Economy Network and Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating and engaging the Alberta Clean Economy Network (ACEN). The ACEN is a diverse network of groups from the environmental, union, and corporate sector as well as First Nations. The Network Coordinator will help the network to solidify common positions and to design and implement campaigns to move network goals forward, and will also outreach to new members and groups.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  1. Work to deepen engagement and broaden the membership of ACEN.

  2. Coordinate meetings and presentations within ACEN.

  3. Work with ACEN groups to develop and implement campaigns that support the Network’s vision and mandate.

  4. Working closely with Communications & Digital Mobilization staff, develop communications materials and online strategies to support ACEN goals and objectives.

  5. Act as a spokesperson for Greenpeace with network members, media, and the public.

  6. Other duties as required.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  1. A demonstrated commitment, knowledge and passion for environmental and social justice issues;

  2. Experience coordinating diverse groups, allies and collaborators from different cultural backgrounds;

  3. Knowledge of campaign techniques, strategies and practices and the principals of social movement and engagement organizing;

  4. Knowledge of Indigenous rights, the history of colonization in Canada and its present day impacts, and anti-oppression theories;

  5. Proven skill in developing communication and online materials and strategies;

  6. High level of professionalism while representing an organization, managing conflict, and maintaining work relationships;

  7. Experience setting and adhering to priorities in a volatile and ever-changing context;

  8. Demonstrated analytical skills;

  9. Excellent oral and written communication skills including public speaking and presentation skills, as well  as strong listening abilities;

  10. Ability to work independently, establish priorities, and proceed with objectives with sometimes limited supervision, yet participate effectively as part of a team;

  11. Flexible, collaborative personality;

You will work with colleagues in Canada and some travel may be necessary. Evening and weekend work is sometimes required.

Candidates should understand and support Greenpeace campaign tactics, including the use of peaceful civil disobedience.  All candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
