Description

Job title - Citizen Science Co-ordinator. Based in Stirling.

Salary: £25,120 per Annum

The Citizen Science Coordinator will be responsible for taking forward the Scotland Counts Programme: a new programme which will build the foundations for environmental citizenship throughout Scotland. Your role will be to develop, coordinate and support a network of organisations delivering Citizen Science programmes, including national agencies, national conservation trusts, local environmental trusts, schools, community groups and local recording groups. You will support existing pilot projects such as a schools flood risk awareness and monitoring project. You will design best practice models for engaging people with environmental recording, as well as disseminating supporting literature, recording tools and coordinating training events. You will also play a major role in developing the website to support Citizen Science in Scotland and the Scotland Counts project.

Experience of environmental or biological recording, data management and working closely with amateur recorders and volunteers is essential. You will have experience within the environmental sector and a good understanding of the needs of public sector organisations regarding environmental data. Experience of supporting volunteers in an outdoor setting, working with schools and teachers and developing and delivering training will be an advantage. This role requires excellent communication and organisational skills, a real commitment to inclusion and the ability to respond to the needs of diverse individuals and groups as they develop the skills to monitor the local environment.
