We require a Chief Scientist to lead our fisheries science and ensure that our services support New Zealand's future fisheries management needs and growth of the seafood sector.

We are New Zealand's lead provider of fisheries research and stock monitoring. Our expertise includes population modelling and risk analysis, trawl and acoustic surveys, vessel operations, fisheries statistics, fish biology and ecology, recreational and customary catch monitoring, and assessment of fisheries environmental impacts and mitigation options.

This critical role is responsible for developing our fisheries science strategy, providing scientific leadership and inspiration to our talented fisheries science teams, developing partnerships with key stakeholders, especially the Ministry of Fisheries and fishing companies, identifying and developing new opportunities with industry, coordinating proposals and negotiating contracts, ensuring services are delivered in accordance with client expectations and driving science excellence and innovation.

Applicants will need to demonstrate leadership, strong technical knowledge of fisheries science, an ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with industry and government agencies, established stakeholder networks (both national and international), and strategic vision.
