The Chief Program Officer (CPO) will manage Carbonfund.org’s extensive programs, including business partnerships, product labeling, individual carbon reductions, marketing and communications, and special programs and initiatives. The CPO will be responsible for managing a team of 8-10 professionals, meeting and exceeding challenging carbon reduction goals, creating and implementing an aggressive carbon reduction program strategy, and communicating our work and partners successes to an ever-wider audience.

The CPO will serve on the executive management team and will report directly to the President.

Carbonfund.org has worked with over 1,300 businesses and organizations and 450,000 individuals, has certified nearly 100 carbon neutral products, has an extensive communications program that all need to be coordinated. Additionally, Carbonfund.org has set an aggressive goal of increasing the amount of carbon dioxide emissions we are eliminating, adding partners, products, individual donors, communications outreach while adding several new business lines in 2010 to better achieve our mission of solving climate change.

The position requires extraordinary management and organizational skills, extensive knowledge of climate change and innovative solutions, the ability to teach and lead junior and aspiring staff, and work across program areas to maximize the results of each partnership and program area. The position requires the ability to take direction and be able to report progress, setbacks and improvements in a clear, concise manner. The position requires exceptional writing and effective communications abilities.

Knowledge of climate change, carbon reduction strategies, including project development and carbon offsetting is a must.

The position requires a team approach to solving problems and accomplishing tasks. You must be able to meet deadlines and be results oriented. An entrepreneurial attitude and comfort working in a fast paced environment are essential.

Requirements

  • 10+ years experience in the nonprofit, government, business, fundraising or environmental fields
  • Exceptional record of achievement
  • Experience and Knowledge in the energy and/or climate sector
  • Fluency in climate change issues
  • Excellent organizational, writing and editing skills
  • Must have team leadership experience
  • Excellent public speaking, and phone communication skills
  • MS Office req., Excel, Word
  • Experience with using databases a plus
  • A passion for the environment and solving our climate crisis
