Description

Chemonics seeks a chief of party for an anticipated USAID-funded project to support sustainable forests and climate change mitigation in India. The project aims to reduce emissions from deforestation and enhance carbon sequestration through conservation activities focused on water and other natural resources, agriculture, coastal zones, and urban planning. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world. Responsibilities include:

  • Lead work plan design and coordinate input from program staff, government counterparts, USAID, and other donors
  • Supervise the project's technical team
  • Report to USAID with achievements and results
 Qualifications:
 
  • Advanced degree in forestry, environment, natural resource management, or climate change-related studies in science, agriculture, or sustainable development 
  • Minimum 15 years of professional experience working on forest conservation and sustainable management of forests, climate change adaptation, REDD+ methodologies, and afforestation projects 
  • Minimum five years of chief of party or team leader experience 
  • Strong knowledge of USAID activities and guidelines 
  • Experience developing guidelines and methodologies to enhance forest carbon stocks with an emphasis on carbon accounting, monitoring, and verification at both the national and state levels 
  • Experience analyzing social and economic incentives to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the forest and agriculture sectors 
  • Proven experience designing methods and approaches to implement REDD+ projects 
  • Expertise in improving management practices for ecosystem services and carbon sequestration 
  • Experience in South Asia, particularly in India
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity 
  • Fluency in English required
