POSITION SUMMARY Endangered Ecosystems of Northern Tanzania (EENT) is a Cooperative Agreement funded by USAID/Tanzania and is designed to protect critical habitats and wildlife, as well as improve livelihoods in a well-defined ecosystem in northern Tanzania. The Chief of Party (COP) and will be responsible for EENT institutional coordination and grant management with USAID and other USAID/Tanzania sponsored projects. The COP will work closely with Eight project partners and ensure compliance with USAID policies and procedures. This position is a 3.5-year, term-limited position for the remaining duration of the 5-year USAID funding window, and will report to the TNC Landscape Director. The position is based at The Nature Conservancy (TNC) Northern Tanzanian Rangelands Initiative office in Arusha, Tanzania. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The COP provides management and program oversight to field operations for the USAID-funded Endangered Ecosystems of Northern Tanzania project. In consultation with the Northern Tanzania Rangelands Initiative (NTRI) and on behalf of the Endangered Ecosystems project, s/he serves as the principle contact to USAID, government agencies, other conservation organizations, foundations and the academic community. S/he will ensure the EENT also works and coordinates activities with other USAID funded projects that are designed to be complementary to EENT, such as the PROTECT project. S/he establishes the project as a major conservation partner within the area of responsibility; defines conservation priorities in the area of responsibility; leads and manages a team that supports and improves conservation efforts; and builds strategic, scientific, and technical capacity in the field. The COP manages the financial and technical aspects of the USAID funding to ensure that there are lasting outcomes and results. A focus will be collaboration with key partners and the communication of best practices, innovative scientific methods, analyses, tools, and frameworks that help address the natural system needs, and engages local community support for local conservation efforts.
