Overview

World Wildlife Fund (WWF), one of the world's leading conservation organizations, seeks a Chief of Party, Combatting Illegal Wildlife Trafficking to be based in Hanoi, Vietnam.



Responsibilities

The COP provides overall vision and leadership for the anticipated USAID Vietnam Combating Illegal Wildlife Trafficking Activity. The COP provides managerial and technical leadership and directs the project's core team of staff and partners responsible for planning, coordination, design and delivery of all project activities. The COP represents the project to USAID Vietnam, partners, and governments and ensures the project is well coordinated with relevant governmental departments and other related USAID/other donor projects. The COP applies participatory, adaptive management approach to ensure program is efficient, effective, and achieves planned results. With support from WWF US HQ, ensures that the project is implemented in compliance with USAID policies and regulations, including subgrants and subcontracts. The COP establishes and maintains good working relationships with project participants, project stakeholders, beneficiaries and other relevant organizations in the region including government partners and USAID personnel.

Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience implementing and managing complex, large-scale wildlife trafficking and biodiversity/species protection projects in Asia. Viet Nam experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing and implementing multi-million dollar USAID and other donor -funded natural resource projects.
  • Experience managing projects which engage and develop political and local champions to reduce demand for wildlife products, change behavior and counter wildlife trafficking.
  • Experience managing projects that enhance monitoring and enforcement of laws and policies that reduce illegal wildlife trade.
  • Master's degree (minimum) in natural resources management, wildlife, forestry, environmental or conservation management, bioregional planning, development studies, social sciences, or relevant field.
  • Extensive understanding of development partnerships, donor strategies, functions, relevant regional intergovernmental processes, governmental and international relations.
  • Excellent written and oral skills communication and fluency in English. Vietnamese language proficiency is encouraged.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness leading and managing teams able to adapt to dynamic operating conditions to achieve project results.
