 Chief of Party – Promoting Tanzania’s Environment, Conservation and Tourism Activity

DAI seeks a Chief of Party for an anticipated USAID funded “Promoting Tanzania’s Environment, Conservation and Tourism” (PROTECT) activity. The goal of PROTECT is to address dynamics in Tanzania that threaten biodiversity conservation and inhibit private sector-led tourism growth. The Chief of Party will be responsible for providing technical and management leadership to the overall program.  The position requires an individual with outstanding strategic planning and management skills, exceptional communications and presentation skills, strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, and a wide range of technical expertise in tourism, biodiversity conservation and private sector development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic planning and implementation of a multi-faceted tourism / biodiversity conservation growth program;
  • Ensure close coordination with USAID, host government, and program partners;
  • Develop strategic partnerships with other USAID projects and international organizations to achieve program objectives;
  • Manage a diverse team of national and international staff;
  • Develop and successfully carry out all activities in the project’s annual work plan;
  • Meet all performance targets specified in the USAID-approved PMP;
  • Responsible for all project finances;
  • Ensure adherence to the subcontracting and grants management plans and overall contract compliance, reporting, and program results; and
  • Be responsible for final delivery of all project results to USAID.

Qualifications

  • An advanced degree in tourism development, international development, wildlife management, or other relevant field.
  • Ten years of experience in providing technical expertise to similar complex development programs.
  • Knowledge of multi and bilateral donor rules and regulations preferred
  • Technical experience in one or more of the following: wildlife conservation, nature-based enterprise development, natural resource rights, natural resource policy reform, environmental governance, protected area management, community based conservation, law enforcement, anti-poaching, tourism.
  • Strong training, communications and personnel management skills.
  • Previous experience managing USAID or other donor projects.
  • Experience and knowledge of East and/or Southern African biodiversity conservation and tourism development issues.
  • Fluent English required.
