Background:

Africa Renewables Group, through its subsidiaries in West Africa, has embarked on a mission is to connect Africa to the green energy economy. The Role:

Africa Renewables Group is looking for a highly motivated, entrepreneurial and energetic Chief Mechanic and Site Manager to join our team on the field as part of our operations in West Africa. The main responsibilities of this role include: 

  • Become a key member in the implementation of a comprehensive logistic chain of biomass extraction, starting with the felling and chipping of the unproductive trees, through to the  storage and  export of woodchips in vessels from the Port
  • Take primary responsibility for all tasks related to our mechanical workshop and management of our storage sites;
  • Ensure the workshop to be operational 24/7 servicing our fleet of highly specialized heavy duty forestry machines operating in the nearby rubber plantations;
  • Recruit and test mechanics, operators for plant and equipment as and when required.
  • Conduct technical training programs at workshop and on the field
  • Identify and deal with overseas suppliers for plant spares.
  • Audit and Suggest replacement or refurbishment of Plant & Equipment in regular interval when operating cost shoots up.
  • Compile Plant performance & Utilization report with operating cost from and submit to local management, as well as the London Office on monthly basis.

Knowledge skills, Qualifications & Experience:

  • The candidate should be an accomplished and high-caliber mechanic
  • At least 10 years of proven experience on heavy duty equipment such as Caterpillar/John Deer/Tiger Cat etc. in a similar environment;
  • Highly organised with an acute sense of initiative, he is able to organise, motivate and manage his team of site operators.
  • Proven experience recruiting and managing high-performing teams
  • Must possess excellent communicating skills (written and verbal in the English language)
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills
  • Proven ability to integrate quickly into a small team with an entrepreneurial culture
  • Drive and ambition
