Description
The European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) is the voice of the wind energy sector in Europe
promoting the utilisation of wind power in Europe and worldwide. It is situated in the heart of the
EU district of Brussels and has over 700 members from 60 countries, including wind turbine
manufacturers, component suppliers, research institutes, national wind energy associations,
project developers, electricity producers, finance and insurance companies and consultants.
EWEA has as its main objective to facilitate EU, national and international policies and initiatives
that strengthen the development of European and global wind energy markets, infrastructure and
technology in order to deliver a sustainable energy future based on renewable energy. EWEA’s
political work is supported by teams of experts on regulatory affairs, policy analysis and strategic
communications. In addition, EWEA organises regular high-profile industry events, including
conferences, exhibitions, political and technical workshops. EWEA is a non-profit organisation. Its
income is generated from membership fees and events.
EWEA’s current Chief Executive Officer is resigning in April 2013 after seven years in the position.
EWEA is therefore looking for a new CEO.

Scope

Board, and must have profound knowledge of the EU political system, EUs legislative processes
and must have documented experience in regulatory affairs and good knowledge of energy and
electricity markets.
The CEO must be good at stakeholder management, since EWEA is a complex organisation with
many diverse stakeholders and members with different backgrounds and cultures. These include
manufacturers, sub-suppliers, power companies, project developers, finance institutions, R&D
centres and national associations.
The CEO is the public face of the association, representing EWEA in high-profile events within the
industry and policy communities (EU, nationally and internationally). (S)He is greatly involved in
strategic communications through public speaking, writing and media work. (S)He engages with
representatives from the European institutions, international institutions, industry stakeholders,
NGOs, the media and the members of EWEA. The CEO is responsible for leading a management team consisting of four Directors (Policy
Director, Communications Director, Membership & Events Director and Finance & Administration
Director). (S)He must possess good managerial skills and be able to motivate a highly committed,
multicultural staff EWEA team.
The CEO must articulate and promote a clear financial and structural vision for the organisation.
