Chief, CSIRO Plant Industry

The Chief of Plant Industry is responsible for providing leadership and vision to develop the Division's science capability to maximise impact, and achieve optimal and effective use of all resources consistent with CSIRO’s Strategic Plan and National Research Priorities for the benefit of Australians, Australian industry and the environment.

Specifically you will be responsible for:

• Science leadership through providing vision, leadership and direction to the scientists and support staff that ensures CSIRO remains scientifically competitive nationally and internationally in plant sciences and/or agriculture.
• Strategic capability management planning for people and infrastructure ensuring appropriate evolution and matching of divisional capability with CSIRO science directions.
• Enterprise leadership through membership of the Executive Management Council and through managing key relationships and alliances with partners, governments and industry to ensure optimal competitive positioning.

• An international reputation in a significant area of plant science research underpinned by a PhD or relevant equivalent experience
• A track record in leading and delivering high-quality strategic science with over the horizon payoffs
• Ability to develop and implement the strategic direction for development of a major science portfolio, balancing short and long term needs
• A commitment to excellence, results and people with a non-adversarial style.
• A deep understanding of relevant global science trends and the R&D environment.
