The International Crane Foundation is looking to fill a 2008 Chick Rearing Intern position. Interns receive intensive hands-on training in the care and management of endangered cranes. Training and responsibilities: General husbandry, handling techniques, behavior, artificial insemination, incubation, health care, genetic management and chick rearing. Interns help with all aspect of the captive flock and responsibilities will vary depending upon season but may include: Daily cleaning, food & water provision and care for adults and chicks comprises half the duties. Other tasks include facilities maintenance, video-monitoring of crane behavior, record keeping, speaking with the public, and chick rearing. The Chick Rearing Intern will focus on all aspects of working with and raising chicks for captivity or as part of the Whooping Crane Reintroduction program. Candidate may be required to work in field conditions for up to two weeks. The work week is five consecutive days and approximately 40-45 hours. Be prepared to work in all weather conditions that may occur in Wisconsin. The Chick Rearing Internship is for 6 months, starting as soon as possible. Starting date is somewhat flexible but preference will go to those who can start in May. Requirements:
Persons with 4 year college degrees are preferred. Must be able to carry a 50 lb. feed bag and do hard physical labor.
