Conservation Begins Here. SCA, America’s #1 conservation service organization seeks qualified individuals to lead local high school students in the 2011 Chicago Crew Program, working in the Forest Preserve District of Cook County.
Primary Responsibilities:
Crew Manager • Lead and manage work outcomes and crew dynamics • Actively manage project & member risk to maintain a safe work environment • Plan for and carry out Environmental Education & Green Job Readiness curriculum • Possibility of organizing and leading 3 day recreation trip after completion of work project (typically backpacking, hiking, canoeing, or sightseeing)
Technical Advisor • Supervise the skills training & safe tool use of crew members • Manage the quality & technique of work performed • Promote leadership development within team
Partnership Representative • Manage relationship with agency partner • Work collaboratively with agency on program logistics • Ensure successful and timely completion of work project
Program Administrator • Communicate with SCA field support staff as required • Complete required program reporting and documentation • Manage vehicles, equipment and any necessary purchasing for crew and project • Ensure compliance with all SCA Risk Management policies & procedures
Qualifications:
- Minimum 21 years of age
- Possess High School diploma, Bachelors degree preferred
- Experience teaching or working with urban youth in outdoor setting
- Valid driver’s license and MVR that meets SCA standards or reliable method of transportation required
- Ability to meet SCA’s criminal background check standards and medical screening
- Possess current CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain
- Must attend SCA Crew Leader Orientation Training
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
- Knowledge and experience with a variety of hand tools
- Hike and work in a variety of weather conditions
- Have or willing to obtain a Illinois Herbicide License
Program Dates: July 5th -August 14th Mandatory Training Dates: June 1st – June 10th and local training June 20th -22nd
Compensation: up to $3695 total salary depending on experience & crew length.
