Job Purpose

We’re Global Generation, and we’re on the lookout for a Chef Intern to help us in an exciting time of growth, in which our garden and café are increasingly opening up to the public.  You will work alongside Global Generation’s Chefs to cook seasonal and vegetarian meals involving the wider Kings Cross community in the Skip Garden kitchen.  You will get to take part in all aspects of our work - from picking fresh herbs and vegetables from the garden to use in the cooking and learning about them to cooking meals, from simple hearty dishes for the cafe to bigger buffet spreads and 3 course meals for special events.

Organisational Context

Global Generation has an established network of urban food-growing sites in King’s Cross, of which the Skip Garden is the ‘mothership’.  Our work is focused on the development of the whole person, providing support for young people to become catalysts for change in their communities.  We integrate values-based reflective learning into practical sessions, enabling young people to grow themselves, grow relationships and grow a new vision for the future.

The food we grow gets used in our Skip Garden Café’s kitchen - a transformed portable cabin - involving local young people and local businesses.  Cooking and eating together is an important aspect of Global Generation, an important income earner in order to reinvest the money into our projects with young people as well as increasingly a platform to bring different people together and learn in a hands on way.  The Skip Garden Cafe is open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and first Saturday of the month.  In addition to the cafe, we will also be taking our Flying Cafe out this summer - a cool bike from which you can cook and sell food.

  • Represent Global Generation with fantastic customer service
  • Take sole responsibility for certain meals after building up your cooking confidence
