Chargé (e) projects, district of Montreal and Laurentians

Nature Conservancy of Canada, Quebec Region (NCC), non-profit organization whose mission is to ensure the protection and management of natural life which are important for biodiversity, is looking for people fill two positions of responsibility (e) projects for its Quebec office.

Job Description

The project manager is responsible for managing projects applying to the CNC program in areas that will be of record.This includes the planning and execution of projects entrusted to him in connection with plans for short and long term organizational, planning and management of capital and operating funds dedicated to projects under his responsibility, development and implementation of management plans for land protection and supervision of staff under his direction.

The Project Manager reports to management for conservation. It supervises and manages the staff and contractors who were hired to work for the projects under his responsibility, the dimensions of conservation, science and management. It should seek, maintain and promote working relationships with colleagues and benefit members of management, as well as any potential ally of the organization.

The project manager must support the core mission of TNC is to protect biodiversity. Therefore it provides assistance to all other sectors and departments of the organization, the Quebec region in Canada or elsewhere as requested by his immediate supervisor. Both stations charged (e) projects are based in the office of NCC in Montreal.

Skills and Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in ecology, conservation biology or related discipline with three years experience in the field
  • Bilingual, with good writing skills, in both French and English and excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of the principles in biology and conservation planning
  • Aptitude for project management, including a good ability to solve problems, a sense of planning and organization and personal attention to details and timelines
  • Aptitude for teamwork and easy to communicate with various stakeholders in the public and private
  • Experience working with private landowners and private stewardship
  • Skilful management of staff (volunteers, trainees, contractors, etc.).
  • Available for travel in areas of record
  • Flexibility in regard to the schedule that the task requires more work in remote locations
  • Familiar with the designations of species by COSEWIC and CDPNQ recovery teams and recovery plans for endangered species
  • Good knowledge of flora and fauna inventory for purposes of identification of species
  • Ability in the implementation of management plans of protected areas
  • Experience in using MS Office, Access and GIS
  • Entrepreneurial spirit to achieve the goals on schedule
  • Commitment to the cause and mission of The Nature Conservancy of Canada
