Description

As part of the University of Exeter's continuing expansion in "Climate Change and Sustainable Futures (CCSF)" we wish to appoint a new Chair in the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences (CEMPS). We are seeking an outstanding candidate in any research area related to climate change science, including mitigation and adaptation. The person appointed to this post will be an internationally recognised researcher with a history of attracting research funding and the ability to attract other top-quality researchers to their group. The ideal candidate will have a strong track-record of 4* publications returnable to the Engineering, Mathematics or Physics panels of the Research Excellence Framework (REF).

The new Chair in Climate Change will join the rapidly growing initiative in CCSF at Exeter, which now involves over a hundred academics who work in cognate areas from physical sciences and engineering, to environmental economics and health, to policy, regulation and behavioural change. This interdisciplinary research initiative also benefits from European investments of more than GBP 40m to develop the Environment and Sustainability Institute on the University's Cornwall Campus and the European Centre for Environment and Human Health in Truro. The post holder will have the opportunity to work closely with the Met Office as part of their strategic alliance with the University , and will join a number of world-class climate scientists at the University, including seven IPCC lead authors.

The candidate will take a leading role in a soon to be announced ERDF funded Business Technology Centre, which aims to support South West SMEs in respect of climate change and is to be delivered in partnership with the Met Office, Plymouth Marine Laboratory and Regen SW.

This post attracts a competitive remuneration (including start-up packages) to reflect the international quality of the person we seek to appoint.

Associated posts are also available to support this appointment.
