Description
As a Chain of Custody auditor at NEPCon your main tasks will be to plan, conduct and administer audits within the environmental standards of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC), Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) and others, amongst our UK and Ireland clients. Your job as Auditor will be to evaluate whether the clients live up to the standards, based on client interviews, site visits and document review. In order to plan and conduct an audit, you must be able to gather and analyse internal and external information on the clients, and their internal business processes, and evaluate them against the standards.
You will be directly involved in all technical and administrative aspects of certification evaluations including scheduling, project management, customer service, oversight of contract auditors and quality control. The tasks in the position are multifaceted and some of them will be:

  • Support the coordination and execution of Chain of Custody evaluations in the UK and Ireland – including budgeting, creating service contracts, logistical planning, supporting consultants, liaising with clients and finalising and reviewing reports.
  • Develop and implement evaluation schedules and ensure timely and efficient completion of these.
  • Ensure efficiency, quality control and adherence to NEPCon’s technical and administration certification protocols.
  • Provide customer service information about certification, technical guidance on interpretation of certification standards and the certification process and trademark use.
  • Manage questions and disputes relating to active certification evaluations

You will be joining a local team of 4 highly engaged and friendly colleagues working with audits as well as various environmental projects in forestry and agricultural sectors in the UK and Ireland and abroad, together with the rest of the 100+ NEPCon staff internationally.

Professional requirements

There are several entries to this position. You have a University level education (B.Sc or M.Sc), within the field of Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Environmental studies, Forest Products or the like. In addition to this,

  • You shall be fluent in (written and spoken) English.
  • You are a proficient user of the MS Office package and have a good understanding of administrative IT systems as this is a part of our everyday work.
  • It is an advantage, but not a requirement, that you are familiar and have experience with auditing and standards e.g. from an internal quality management system (like ISO) or FSC and PEFC. What is important is the willingness and desire to become a great auditor.
  • You have the legal right to work permanently in the UK and Ireland

Furthermore the ideal candidate has experience working cross-culturally and across borders in an international organization (preferably an NGO, but not a requirement). You must hold a driver’s license.

Personal Qualities

  • You are an open and friendly person, who likes to – and are good at – communicating with people on all levels.
  • You pay attention to details.
  • You possess a high level of self-discipline, an ability to organize and manage yourself and your time, as well as making independent decisions, as the nature of the job requires you to work independently and meet deadlines.
