Description

The Chief Technical Advisor for our Centre ValBio research station in southeastern Madagascar has decided to return to the United States after six years of miracle working, and are looking to fill the vacancy as soon as possible. CVB is a Biodiversity Research Station, with international scientists coming from all around the world to study the plants and animals within Ranomafana National Park, a 41,500ha rainforest national park. We are a research station with a heart. For thirty years we have worked closely with village communities on improving health, education and business enterprises. We work with schools to do reforestation, have a strong environmental arts program and work with every level of government (traditional, local, regional and national). Our donors are diverse, including: National Geographic, NSF, NIH, USAID, UNICEF, Conservation International, Macarthur, Liz Claiborne and Packard.  We work closely with the National Park Service and the Ministry of the Environment and the University of Antananarivo and University of Fianarantsoa. It’s a dynamic, wonderful way to do conservation, with a loyal, hardworking staff of 85 local people. We have modern facilities with molecular biology labs, infectious disease labs, microCT scanner, computers, microscopes and high speed internet. The Chief Technical Advisor will have skills that are diverse, and will be responsible for overseeing finance. The selected candidate will be someone who can interface with USAID and all our partners, and someone who can write proposals and organize the Annual Report. The CTA will be an employee of Stony Brook University, and will require living in Ranomafana.

Stony Brook University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer. We encourage protected veterans, individuals with disabilities, women and minorities to apply.
