Our client structures and guides greenhouse gas emission reduction projects from beginning to end, working with both project developers and buyers of emission reduction credits.  They work with companies in developing and industrialising countries to create emission reduction credits from projects that reduce emissions of greenhouse gases.

They currently need a CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) Project Manager to be based in their Johannesburg office.  You will be responsible for the management of the implementation of CDM or similar carbon mitigation projects in Southern Africa.

KEY RESULTS AREAS

  • Management of the implementation of CDM projects independently throughout the whole value chain.
  • Development of Project Design Documents, calculation of baselines and GHG emission reductions, financial analysis of CDM Projects, development of calculation tools and monitoring systems.
  • Management of the validation process, ongoing data gathering and analysis as part of the monitoring of Emission Reductions and providing support for the verification process.
  • Visit project sites to work with project developers on the implementation stages of a project, conduct internal audits and pre-verification checks as well as attend project site audits.
  • Provide significant interaction and management of the CDM cycle with client base, as well as maintaining good client relationships and furthering business development.

CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to understand and process technical information on the energy, waste and industrial sector.
  • Ability to apply financial analysis tools and willingness to learn about financial modelling.
  • Strong interest in climate change policy and teh carbon market
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and under an international bureaucracy

REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE

  • A 4 year degree in a relevant area (Masters is preferable)
  • Experience in one or more of the following fields:  waste or energy projects; carbon project implementation; environmental consulting; process engineering; renewable energy applications; monitoring equipment and processes
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, in particular Excel
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good interpersonal and organisation skills
