Description

Ifremer is charged by the MEDDE to provide assistance for the implementation of the Framework Directive "Strategy for the Marine Environment" (MSFD). The organization of scientific support is based on the Scientific Steering themes contributing to one or more descriptors MSFD. Within Ifremer, the Scientific Steering the theme "Fish and cephalopods" is provided in the Ecology Unit and Models for Fisheries (EMH) in Nantes. The theme "Fish and cephalopods" contributes to D1 including descriptors (Biodiversity) and D4 (food web). A need for development of indicators has been recognized for these descriptors, both theoretical and practical, for the assessment of Good Environmental Status (EEB), a first assessment is planned from 2018.While some indicators for the calculation methods are very knowledgeable, methodological development work remains to be done for others. This is particularly the case for indicators on species distributions spatial areas where different approaches can be tried. The person will also work on indicators of communities (eg diversity indices) where still here methodological developments will have to offer. ? Main activities:Within the EMH unit, where methods have been developed for evaluation by population indicators and fish communities and in collaboration with the pilot of the theme "Fish and cephalopods", the / candidate (s) will perform the following tasks: i. Development of indicators for the D1 and D4, especially on species distribution areas, on indicators of communities (structure and diversity) and food webs; ii. Setting thresholds Feasibility Study and targets for the indicators. He / she will develop and test the operational indicators including on species ranges, indices of abundance / biomass for species with little data are available (data poor species) and the indices at the community level. To do this, he / she will use the data of French and international fisheries campaigns in metropolitan marine subregions.
