Working with farmers to solve water quality problems
Wessex Water provides its customers with some of the purest water in the country, and where possible we want to do this by preventing the contamination of raw water rather than providing treatment processes. Over the last five years Wessex Water has pioneered this approach. We have been trying to halt and reverse the rising trend of nitrate and pesticide levels in raw water. We are continuing and expanding this work over the next five years and we need your help...
In this role you will be working in up to 15 different groundwater and surface water catchments across our water supply area, from Devizes in the north east to Bridport in the south west.
You will join an existing catchment management team whose purpose is to help farmers reduce the levels of nitrate and pesticides entering the water environment close to our water supply sources.
The Catchment Advisor will have day-to-day contact with farmers. Collecting data from farms and then using this data and your knowledge to help the farmers reduce pollution. This is a great opportunity for you to use your agricultural knowledge to help solve a real problem facing the water industry whilst promoting sustainable agriculture. For this post you are likely to have had some hands on farming experience supported by relevant agricultural qualifications (such as FACTS and BASIS).
