You’ll expect to be working on the most serious environmental cases, often involving organised crime, ranging from tackling illegal waste sites to investigation into illegal exports of waste.
Secondly, you’ll be assisting the work of the Anglian Intelligence Unit (AIU) to further develop our intelligence-led approach to investigation and enforcement carrying out such tasks as data entry onto our MEMEX intelligence database, collating intelligence and helping to develop intelligence ‘products’.
The team
The Anglian ECT1 is comprised of an investigation unit and an intelligence unit. The investigation unit tackles cases of serious and organised environmental crime generally throughout our Central and Northern Areas in Anglian Region whereas our intelligence unit supports our investigators and those in other teams and functions across the whole of Anglian Region to best ensure that resources are directed to where they are needed.

• have a background in a regulatory function and experience in handling, assessing and collating evidence for court purposes;
• need an understanding of the rules of disclosure and ideally experience of applying these in your previous work;
• demonstrate an understanding of the technical requirements of general enforcement work;
• be required to understand the fundamentals of intelligence-led ways of working and demonstrate that you understand how intelligence can be used to effectively target and reduce crime.
Each aspect of the role requires extensive use of spreadsheets and databases; therefore, you’ll be IT literate. You’ll have recent experience in the handling and manipulation of large datasets and searching and querying recognised complex Environment Agency or governmental databases.
