Background:The Carbon Reduction Officer position provides extra capacity to the ‘Energy and Carbon Management’ team in the County Council to meet targets that are required of them by local and central government. This project provides challenging, varied and wide ranging work and a fantastic opportunity for a motivated, enthusiastic and dynamic individual looking to begin their career in an innovative environment. This project provides challenging work and a great learning and development opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic individual. The post will directly support and be part of a Regional Development Framework (ERDF) project through the North West Europe (NWE) Interreg IVB Programme called “ZECOs” (Zero CO2 low carbon project). The County Council’s element of the project is worth €1.2m. Previous post holders have gone on into either Masters’ courses or into other climate change and carbon management related employment within their host council, or elsewhere. Objective:The Carbon Reduction Officer will work to help Northamptonshire County Council to meet its carbon reduction commitments. The officer will provide a supporting role to a variety of CO2 reduction projects, covering: renewable energy, energy efficiency, behavioural change (both web-based and face to face), funding projects, and many more. Benefits To GraduateWork in this project role will allow the graduate to gain valuable experience in the sectors of carbon/energy management and reduction, general sustainability, renewable energy etc (see above). This field is a high growth area and relevant work experience is a pre-requisite of most positions; however this is an entry level role. Further experience will be gained on working in, and with public sector bodies. Accompanying this is the on-going training and support offered through CHANGE AGENTS UK to successful candidates. Employment Potential and Options Post Project WorkThis project will give a graduate excellent work experience in low-carbon, sustainability and public sector working as well as networking opportunities within this area. Previous officers have moved on to develop careers in Sustainability, Low-carbon and Local Government.
Candidates must be a graduate and possess a valid UK driving licence or access to a vehicle insured for business use and driver/assistance.
