Description

Do you want to join a new team committed to climate action and delivering change? Do you have experience in carbon reduction projects and data systems? Can you help the SEC collect data and interpret its carbon footprint? This role is for someone with experience in data collection and analysis and an ability to identify and develop carbon reduction opportunities.

The Scottish Episcopal Church (SEC) has a published Net Zero Action Plan 2023-30 and is building a flexible and enthusiastic team to support the implementation of its ambitious Net Zero targets. It seeks experienced net zero specialists to provide support and guidance to churches and Dioceses.

About the Job: You will have equal opportunity to work at both national and regional levels.

You will be responsible for carbon data collection and analysis across SEC operations and act as a key contact to support carbon reduction projects for churches and Dioceses. You will gather, interpret, and report on carbon data and provide a valuable contribution to net zero strategic planning at local, regional, and national level.

You will ensure accurate reporting and monitoring of emissions, working alongside the Net Zero team to support uptake of carbon reduction activities within SEC churches. You will support Dioceses and churches with their data submissions and provide valuable interpretations of that data to provide guidance on net zero action plans and carbon reduction projects.

You will also play a key role in direct engagement with individual Dioceses, working alongside the rest of the Net Zero Team to nurture relationships and help them develop their own action plans. You will use your knowledge and experience of net zero to design new methods of contextualised data collection across all emission scopes throughout all SEC churches.

About you: You should have experience gathering, reporting, and monitoring data and an ability to translate it into meaningful actions for a range of audiences. You should have analytical, prioritisation, and data reporting skills and an affinity for communicating net zero data. You should have a sound knowledge of net zero concepts, carbon reduction solutions for churches and an ability to communicate these to a range of faith-based audiences.

Things you need to know: You will report to the Net Zero Delivery Director and work within a new Net Zero Team to support the SEC’s seven Dioceses (regions). This role will be remote based, however regular travel to Dioceses across Scotland will be required as well as attendance at routine meetings in the General Synod Office in Edinburgh where you will meet with the rest of your team. You may be required to work some evenings and weekends.

The SEC comprises some 300 churches, with a total membership of about 24,000. The Net Zero Delivery Director is coordinating the new team and will be appointing 5 new posts. The first round of posts to be advertised are Innovation Coordinator, Empowerment Coordinator, and Carbon Projects and Data Officer. A role focused on Sustainability and another on Heating and Energy will follow swiftly after.

All postholders will work closely as a team and provide progress reports and advice as necessary.

Starting salary is dependent on experience.

Benefits: flexible working, working from home within a remote team; non-contributory final salary pension scheme
