Description

Reporting to the Director of Programs and Business Development and with oversight from the Technical Manager, the Carbon Project Manager’s primary aim is to provide high-quality, expert carbon and technology advisory services to Nexus members, corporate partners, and debt financing funds. In addition, the position will contribute to sourcing projects and consultancies in climate mitigation and adaptation – as well as improving monitoring and evaluation of projects for social and environmental outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities

Technical Advisory Services to members and clients (70%)

Ideally an expert in carbon finance, she/he will be responsible for managing the development and successful issuance of high quality carbon finance programs under voluntary and compliance standards. Key activities will include:

* Assisting member programs through the carbon project cycle from design stage to issuance of carbon credits as required, including design of baseline and monitoring surveys, drafting Project Design Documents and monitoring reports, managing Designated Operating Entities, etc.;

* Conducting due diligence on projects in the low-carbon, pro-poor sector to support the sustainable growth of the Nexus portfolio;

* Managing co-benefits information and data collection on projects for coordination with Nexus communication team, including Social Return on Investment

* Conduct footprinting exercises for Nexus corporate partners

Depending on the background and strengths of the applicant, they may also:

* Contribute technical advice to Nexus debt financing funds:

* Providing expert review of technologies and potential risks of implementation in a developing country context

* Contributing to debt financing strategy development from a technical perspective

* Contribute to technical consultancies, such as market assessments, climate finance research, technical studies on black carbon, etc.

Business Development (20%)

* Contribute technical information to proposals as required

* Seek opportunities for Nexus technical team to realize consultancies on the clean energy and clean water sectors in coordination with the Membership and Grants Manager

* Participate in relevant events and forums

Administration and Research (10%)

* Provide Nexus with market intelligence on evolutions in carbon markets and related fields, including climate finance

* Conduct research for Nexus to ensure thought leadership

* Participate in Nexus strategy development, monitoring and reporting

Key requirements

Successful candidates will have:

* Experience in carbon finance and/or implementation of programs involving improved/advanced cookstoves, solar, water filters, waste to energy, and household biogas digesters in Asia and/or Africa

* Familiar with CDM or GS methodologies about renewable energy and energy efficiency.

* Master’s degree in a relevant subject area (environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental technology, international development)

* Solid knowledge of or experience with statistics

* Work experience in developing countries

* Fluency in English

* Knowledge and experience in climate finance and pro-poor programs a plus

* Experience conducting due diligence and/or assessing the financial viability of projects also a plus

* Based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

* Permanent staff

* Requires travel, up to 20% of time
