Climate Focus is seeking a consultant to join our team in Rotterdam or Amsterdam and actively contribute to our growing carbon pricing practice by successfully implementing existing assignments and supporting the acquisition of new projects.

Position description 

As part of Climate Focus’ widely-respected carbon pricing team, the consultant will actively contribute to our growing carbon pricing practice through successfully implementing existing assignments and supporting the acquisition of new projects. This includes working directly with governments around the world to develop, implement, and communicate ambitious carbon taxes, emissions trading systems and other carbon pricing policies. It also involves supporting stakeholder engagement, capacity building, and the development of leading knowledge products on carbon pricing and climate policy. 

In addition to supporting our carbon pricing work, the consultant will have the opportunity to support other areas of Climate Focus’ work, including on carbon markets, climate finance, and forest and land-use law and policy. 

Specific tasks include: 

? Supporting the development of carbon taxes, emissions trading, and other carbon pricing and climate change policies. 

? Supporting the development of communication and engagement strategies for carbon pricing policies. 

? Developing training materials and knowledge products, including reports, briefings, presentations, etc. 

? Research and analysis on climate change law, policy, and strategy. 

? Participating in strategic planning calls and meetings with clients and partners. 

? Supporting project management and administration. 

? Contributing to the acquisition process by supporting with the preparation of proposals. 

The consultant will be based in our Amsterdam and/or Rotterdam offices, with a preference for Amsterdam. The position is available for an initial fixed term of one year, starting as soon as possible. A permanent position with excellent growth potential may subsequently be available subject to performance and needs. 

Salary is competitive and will be determined based on prior experience. 


The successful candidate will have: 

? Proven skills (and fluency) in writing papers, articles or reports in English and Spanish. 

? Master’s degree (or equivalent) in law, economics, public policy, development, communications, or related discipline 

? Minimum two years’ experience working in climate change law, policy, or strategy. Candidates with more experience are also strongly encouraged to apply. 

? Excellent research and science-based working skills. 

? Prior experience working in carbon pricing is strongly desired. 

? Prior experience in strategic communication is a plus. 

? Prior project management experience is a plus. 

? Permission to work in the Netherlands is preferred. In exceptional cases Climate Focus can sponsor work visas. 

? Team player with excellent interpersonal skills that enjoys working in a client-oriented, international field of business.
