Background Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC) is a largely rural district in North Buckinghamshire, sitting to the west of Milton Keynes and within 40 miles of London, with excellent rail and road connections. We provide a range of public services, including Economic development, waste collection, planning, housing, parking and sustainability services to a local community of circa 170,000 local residents. Our Sustainability Services are a growing part of our business and community offering within facilities; carbon management; energy efficiency; low carbon/renewables and affordable warmth. With a proven track record of estate energy management, including an on-going carbon management programme with 5 year project plan, we are keen to fill a short-term placement (due to the temporary secondment of personnel) to ensure our energy efficiency projects are kept on track. The placement will provide an insight into and experience of local government and how the current financial environment provides opportunities for improved cost/carbon efficiencies. Experience of this growing work area will be an important asset for anyone interested in working within this developing area. Objective To provide a relatively seamless transition re-additional capacity the delivery of AVDC’s carbon management project work plan resulting from a temporary secondment in return for employment experience and potential for constructive employment references within a growing sustainability work area. Benefits of this opportunity The chosen candidate will gain an understanding of the functions of a Council with experience of cross-departmental working and liaison with a wide range of Council Officers and Senior Management. They will also get experience of working in a dynamic and proactive Local Authority Environmental Strategy and Delivery Team. There will also be the opportunity to develop practical project management, time management and communication skills.
