The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Captive Wildlife Regulatory Specialist for its Regulatory Affairs section.  The main responsibility of this position is to work under the direction of the Director of Regulatory Affairs to cultivate relationships with regulatory agencies and support the development and implementation of federal regulations protecting captive wildlife.  Other duties include, but are not limited to: develop positive relationships with agency officials; spearhead and support organizational work on regulations; coordinate HSUS resources related to agencies; lobby for new federal and state laws that will require regulations; liaison with state and federal litigation and legislative programs; provide support for media outreach.  Bachelor’s degree along with one to three years experience in political organizing with a strong interest in politics highly desired.  Special understanding of wildlife welfare issues and ability to digest complex scientific data is needed along with excellent verbal and written communication skills.  The salary range for this position is from the mid $50’s to the low $60’s.  Please send cover letters and resumes to hrjobs@hsus.org or fax to 301-548-7701.  This position is located in Washington, DC.
