WANTED, for immediate employment in Cyprus:

Enthusiastic young conservationist to work as Campaigns Officer (Habitats) for BirdLife Cyprus, the Island’s most active biodiversity conservation NGO. The ideal candidate will have a degree in a relevant subject (ecology/ biology/ conservation) and a real commitment to biodiversity conservation. Fluency in written and spoken Greek – as well as English – is a must. Relevant experience will be an advantage, but not a must – given sufficient commitment! The role involves campaigning (advocacy and communications work) to secure designation of Cyprus’s key bird habitats as NATURA 2000 sites, plus to ensure proper mangement of these sites. The successful candidate will be expected to take the lead in what is an already sucessful campaign, but one that also still faces huge challenges. He or she will work as part of a small, dedicated team at BirdLife cyprus’s offices outside Nicosia and will be expected to be flexible and willing to take on other (relevant) tasks as required.  The position is funded by the RSPB (BirdLife in the UK), under a contract that currently runs only till the end of March 09. Gross salary is €20,000 p.a. Please contact Martin Hellicar at martin.hellicar@birdlifecyprus.org.cy or on +357 22 455 072 for further information. Applications (CV plus covering letter) should reach BirdLife Cyprus at the email before end June 08.
