We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated campaigns intern who can work on a range of tasks supporting the coordination of the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition.

Stop Climate Chaos is the UK’s largest group of people dedicated to action on climate change and limiting its impact on the world’s poorest communities. The coalition spans more than 100 organisations, from major environment and development charities to unions, faith and community groups.

Based in the Oxfam London (Victoria) office, you will work closely with the coalition coordinator to support her in a variety of roles. The role is mainly administrative, although given the range of work carried out by the coordinator you will support all aspects of coalition campaigns and events, with a particular focus on Social Media.

In 2012-13 we will be working on a range of campaigns focused on the Climate Act and Energy Bill, as well as implementing an ongoing grassroots campaign.

A keen interest in climate change and a willingness to learn would be ideal. This position will give the post holder a valuable insight into campaigning and working within the climate movement.

Role description

  • Liaising with coalition member organisations, including encouraging broader coalition support with campaigns.
  • Being the first point of contact and responding to enquiries by phone and email.
  • Managing promotion of SCC and member organisation campaigns via Facebook & Twitter and building SCC’s online profile and networks.
  • Preparing promotional and outreach material for distribution.
  • Administration and organisational support, including updating member information.
  • Ad hoc help to support campaign work.

Person specification

  • Experience of campaigning with an organisation through taking part in, or helping coordinate, a campaign.
  • Proven experience of using social media to build support for a project.
  • Proven ability to communicate well verbally and in writing.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience of working with databases.
  • Passionate about tackling climate change and supportive of the aims and methods of Stop Climate Chaos.
  • Resilient enough to work calmly and effectively under pressure of both deadlines and expectations.
  • Experience of grassroots campaigning (desirable).
  • Experience of working with external partners (desirable).
  • Experience of using video and image editing software (desirable).

Role Details

Duration: 6 months, 3 days per week
Salary: £15,100 pro rata

This position is subject to a probationary period of 1 month.

Application Closing Date: 10am Friday 19th October 2012
Interview date: 25th October 2012
Start date: 1st November 2012
