The Campaign Director will lead the Gulf of Mexico outreach initiative consistent with meeting organization objectives to build and expand a diverse constituency base that will support and/or act on behalf of fisheries reform. The organization seeks a strong campaign advocacy leader who has a well-established political network in the Gulf of Mexico and can utilize those relationships to mobilize and influence key decision-makers and shape public opinion in the region.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leads Gulf of Mexico outreach initiative including development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive plan to build and mobilize a diverse constituency, including the public, members and activists of the Ocean Conservancy. Leads the movement to shape public opinion in the Gulf of Mexico on fishery reform through the development and use of innovative and effective communication and outreach tactics and tools. Identifies and builds a cadre of influential individuals who will take action on behalf of the organization’s policy objectives. Continue to cultivate important political, community and constituent relationships and alliances to build a broad base of support. Mobilizes allies to attend and influence decision-makers at key meetings and events. Organizes events that educate, engage and/or mobilize constituents to take action, such as lobbying efforts, advocacy training, citizen workshops, rallies, etc. Closely collaborates with Constituency department staff that is responsible for strategic national outreach to ensure an integrated approach and consistent messaging. Prepares and manages Gulf outreach budget, cash flow statements and performance projections for all activities; responsible for ongoing monitoring of expenditure, revenue and ensures adherence to annual budget. Drafts and submits progress reports pursuant to Grantor requirements. Ensures programmatic activities are aligned within overall organizational vision, direction, and goals. Collaborates in the integration of the constituent relationship management database (Raiser’s Edge) and maintains accurate constituency records. Effectively supervises Gulf of Mexico outreach staff. Performs other duties as directed by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors degree in a related field required, Masters preferred; seven (7) plus years of senior level experience in campaign organizing, community outreach, and/or grassroots activism. Established track record in building and mobilizing a regional constituency base of support required with knowledge of and passion for working on ocean health issues and fisheries management. Ability to build and manage influential relationships with an established political network in the Gulf of Mexico is a plus. Successful experience working with the senior management team to develop and implement a work plan and evaluate programmatic performance. Supervisory experience required with insight to assess individual performance in relation to the program and success in team building and staff motivation. Ability to manage budgets and financial monitoring systems; advanced Excel spreadsheet skills required. Ability to take initiative, produce work independently and to act on behalf of a team. Excellent written and verbal communications; strong organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure and meet constant deadlines. Working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge a plus. Non-profit background preferred. Good working knowledge of environmental and/or social change movement desirable. Must be willing and available to travel.
