Campaign Director

With nearly a million supporters, over 400.000 donors and 15 offices worldwide, WSPA has over 30 years of experience as an advocate and practical change maker for animals. We are now seeking to significantly develop our campaign capacity in Europe and have recently established a Regional Office in The Hague.

We are recruiting a Campaigns Director to lead and inspire the campaigns team who deliver our Global Strategy in Europe.

As part of the European Leadership Team, our Campaigns Director will lead on the campaign strategy development and delivery, working closely with colleagues in our four European country offices and International team in London. The European campaigns team focuses on planned work on farm animals, stray dogs and wildlife, as well as having the capacity to respond to tactical opportunities in the region. Our campaigns achieve demonstrable and sustainable change for animals, and are of appeal to our supporters and donors, many of which are within the region.

We are seeking a seasoned professional with senior-level campaigning experience, who is able to develop an integrated campaigning strategy and has proven experience of turning strategy into effective actions. They will possess exceptional leadership qualities with the ability to communicate direction and gain commitment to action.

This role will be based at WSPA’s office in the The Hague (relocation assistance available). Salary circa €78,000.

JOB PURPOSE

 

Working to WSPA’s strategic vision, the Campaign Director will develop inspiring and creative campaigns, for delivery across the European region, that achieve measurable and sustainable change to benefit the welfare of animals, and are of appeal to the organisation’s supporters and donors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

  • Develop WSPA’s pan-European campaigns strategy through collaboration with internal stakeholders, ensuring fit with global strategic aims
  • Design high quality and innovative campaigns which will create demonstrable animal welfare development advances
  • Manage and lead a team to support the implementation of the strategy, effectively developing them to achieve maximum impact
  • Work with colleagues and partners to deliver effective and coherent campaigning and influencing activities across the region.
  • Provide campaigning capacity building advice and guidance, as requested, to country offices
  • Ensure a culture of evidence, innovation and learning is firmly rooted in WSPA’s campaigning work.
  • Produce budgetary proposals, implementation plans, project updates and reports as appropriate, working with WSPA’s Campaign Planning & Implementation Process.
  • Establish and implement systems to effectively monitor and evaluate outcomes achieved
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues within the European and other regions,  at WSPA International and in Country Offices to ensure that the regional campaigns work is conducted as effectively as possible, and that opportunities for cross-function learning are maximised

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Senior-level campaigning experience with the ability to design, develop and implement an integrated campaigning strategy
  • Proven experience of turning strategy into effective actions
  • Exceptional leadership qualities with the ability to communicate direction and gain commitment to action
  • Highly skilled at managing and co-ordinating projects and developing mutual co-operation across teams
  • Proven experience in working at a senior level in networking, developing relationships with external stakeholders and in representing an organisation to external stakeholders at all levels
  • Proven experience of public speaking and media representation
  • Demonstrable affinity with and interest in WSPA’s objectives
  • Demonstrable experience of building capacity of staff to participate in campaigns
  • Ability to provide coaching, feedback and guidance to others, as required
  • Experience of working with teams in different locations

The post requires willingness to travel internationally on occasion, including long and short haul travel on a planned calendar.
