Description

The African Wildlfe Foundation aims to develop a country-wide program in Cameroon with focus on landscape scale conservation and economic development. The primary responsibility of AWF’s Cameroon Country Coordinator  (CCC) is to ensure effective implementation of AWF projects in Cameroon, to represent AWF in relevant forums and to monitor and document ongoing and planning conservation projects and stakeholders.

 The CCC will track potential donor opportunities, share relevant program and funding opportunities with Supervisor and help facilitate meetings with senior AWF staff as needed with relevant Cameroonian authorities and donors.

Key Responsibilities

1. Help AWF establish a presence and profile in Cameroon

  • Track relevant meetings, forums and policy opportunities
  • Track, document and report on new programs and stakeholders in areas of interest for AWF.
  • Meet with relevant authorities, such as MINFoF, as needed to establish awareness of AWF and partnerships
  • Facilitate meetings with relevant authorities for senior AWF staff
  • Represent AWF at Cameroon conservation forums, liaise with the other conservation NGO’s and understand their programs, and identify potential local partners in the priority areas.

2. Cultivate relationships with donors in the region, such as AfD, EU, USAID and with regional institutions (COMIFAC, RAPAC, CEEAC).

  • Provide support to AWF Cameroon programs
  • Support AWF programs (currently in Dja, Bouba and Campo) and/or facilitate technical support from AWF as needed
  • Monitor implementation of programs, help trouble shoot problems
  • Liaise between field programs and AWF-Nairobi F&A to assure efficient implementation following AWF-procedures

3. Track donor opportunities in Cameroon

  • Identify donor opportunities for AWF in Cameroon
  • Track donor opportunities and share with AWF Program Design and philanthropy
  • Set up meetings for AWF senior staff with donors

4. Help create awareness of AWF on-going programs

  • Share with AWF marketing stories, updates and programs reports for publication in AWF materials and externally

Qualifications

  • Postgraduate (MSc degree) qualifications required in natural resource management, biodiversity and/or protected areas management
  • 7 + years in conservation in Africa
  • Direct experience in conservation and program management in Africa
  • Fluency in French and English.
  • Excellent writing skills, French and English.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations governing NRM management across Africa.  
  • Knowledge of ecological and development issues relevant to AWF’s programs
  • Ability to work with a wide diversity of partners ranging from communities to government authorities to NGOs to protected area authorities
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and independently
  • Strong communicator
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to fulfil mandatory AWF operations and financial procedures
