Description

The Economics of Climate Change, Energy and Transport Unit has a vacancy for a doctoral researcher to work on spatial analysis, environment and society. The successful candidate will form part of a multidisciplinary team in the ETEA action.

The Energy and transport economic assessment action (ETEA) supports the European Commission services responsible for policy making in energy and transport through the development and application of simulation models, quantitative evaluation methodologies and technology monitoring mechanisms. ETEA provides techno-economic analyses and impact assessments of policy measures and technological developments for energy and transport

The successful candidate will carry out research on the spatial dimension of transport and its environmental and societal impacts, using and developing advanced GIS (Geographic Information Systems) applications. The work involves the definition of research questions and the development of research methodologies, the collection of transport data and statistics, as well as the development and application of transport and GIS models.

Suitable candidates should have an educational background in engineering, economics, environment, geography or relevant subjects. It is necessary that candidates have advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience in the use of ESRI ArcInfo, Network Analyst and database management software.

Candidates must have a degree from a university (or equivalent higher education body) allowing direct access to doctoral level studies. The selected candidate must provide proof of enrolment in a university doctoral studies programme related to the research project for which he/she applied before the grant can start. Prior agreement to follow the research project must be obtained from the professor responsible for the thesis at the student's university.

A very good level of written and spoken English is essential and knowledge of at least one other EU language is compulsory.
