Contract length: until March 2022

Location: Working from the Thames21 offices, in and around the River Brent catchment, with the option for occasional home working

Responsible to: Head of Engagement and Education

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To deliver an innovative programme of community-led river restoration, green infrastructure and monitoring activities in and surrounding the rivers in the River Brent catchment. This role, funded by the Greggs Foundation, overseen by The Rivers Trust and the Brent Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levey Fund, will engage with local groups and partner organisations to deliver river restoration, green infrastructure, and knowledge exchange and build skills. MAIN DUTIES AND

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Deliver river restoration and community engagement based around core locations in areas of higher deprivation areas spread across the River Brent Catchment;

2. Co-ordinate a variety of citizen science monitoring activities to investigate river quality across a range of indicators and to inspire engagement & knowledge exchange;

3. Arrange community-led river restoration activities that will share and build knowledge and experiences via (ad-hoc) site exchange visits;

4. Deliver a series of river habitat and floodplain improvements along newly accessible riversides/walks;

5. Work within a team to co-ordinate a range of events: including annual celebration events with river park communities to celebrate their rivers; and art engagement activities to engage vulnerable young people with project partners.

6. Work closely with local partners and groups to encourage efficient working partnerships;

7. Work with the River Restoration Team to secure all appropriate permissions and consents to deliver practical work on the waterways;

8. Coordinate with Thames21’s Catchment Partnerships Team;

9. Work with Thames21’s Fundraising Manager to identify and secure co-funding sources to develop new projects and add momentum to this programme;

10. Work with the Thames21 Training Officer, to establish a group of volunteers who are trained in Thames21’s modules to maintain and monitor local sites. Includes supporting existing volunteers and assisting with building their capacity so groups become autonomous;

11. Represent Thames21 at relevant local forums;

12. Maintain clear records of progress, ensure all administration and statistical information is kept, and regularly upload information onto the Thames21 database;

13. Regular co-ordination with Thames21’s Communications Team to ensure key milestones are recognised and volunteer opportunities are publicised;

14. Attend Thames21 Team Meetings and liaise with Thames21 staff.

  1. · 25 days paid annual leave are available pro rata plus public holidays. In addition, the Thames21 office is closed between Christmas and New Year
