BRE Global's Sustainability Group is responsible for developing, maintaining and managing BREEAM, the world leading standard for the assessment and certification of buildings.

We are looking for a professional with at least two years post-graduate experience to help us deliver and grow BREEAM in the public sector. The role requires knowledge of the planning system and will involve working closely with key stakeholders within Local and possibly Central Government, as well as the wider construction industry.

Applicants will be expected to demonstrate a sound technical knowledge and understanding of the construction industry, buildings, Government policy on sustainable building and BREEAM.

The role will involve providing a range of technical services for the BREEAM team including:

  • Ensuring ongoing maintenance, delivery and growth of BREEAM, specifically for our Public and Government sector schemes
  • Providing BREEAM related technical advice and support to BREEAM Assessors and the BREEAM certification, licensing and operations processes
  • Training BREEAM Assessors and contributing towards training course development
  • Contributing to the development of existing, bespoke and new BREEAM schemes, some international travel involved
  • Reporting on the performance of BREEAM assessments on Public sector buildings to the BREEAM Public sector manager
  • Managing and developing customer and stakeholder relationships in the public and private sectors
  • Planning and delivering relevant projects or tasks effectively
  • Research and report writing on new technical areas that have an impact on sustainability in the built environment and the BREEAM Schemes

The successful applicant will demonstrate the following key skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Two years post-graduate experience in a construction/environmental related role.
  • A first or upper second class honours degree in architecture, building, building services, environmental engineering, energy, civil engineering, planning or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent technical understanding of building design, construction and procurement, energy efficiency, sustainability and policy within the built environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Self motivated flexible approach to work
  • Be fully conversant with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint

Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Qualified BREEAM Assessor
  • Practical experience of carrying out BREEAM assessments to certification and BREEAM/Sustainability related consultancy on new build construction projects.
  • Knowledge of the UK public sector, in terms of building construction, sustainability and Government sustainability policy
  • Knowledge/experience of the planning system and local planning authority structure
  • An interest in sustainability and environmental issues, through previous work experience, learning and/or volunteering.
  • Member of a relevant professional institute e.g. IEMA, CIOB, CIBSE, ISE
