Summary of role: In consultation with Born Free CEO, the Programmes Manager (Conservation) and other senior staff of the Foundation, represent Born Free, its mission, policies and programmes in Kenya, manage all Born Free staff and programmes in Kenya in order to achieve Born Free’s objectives, and represent Born Free at a senior level in order to promote Born Free’s message throughout the country (and if the situation demands elsewhere within the region).

Reporting to: Programmes Manager (Conservation) – UK Head Office

Key Responsibilities:

  • Help design, and be responsible for the delivery of, Born Free’s activities within Kenya (and potentially in neighbouring countries), and through doing so ensure that all projects result in measurable conservation and/or welfare benefits;
  • Manage the Born Free Kenya budget and finances;
  • Actively and widely promote Born Free’s legacy and work in Kenya and increase awareness of wider wild animal conservation and wildlife-related issues throughout the country;
  • Support the compassionate conservation policies of the Born Free Foundation;
  • Lead, motivate and manage the Born Free Kenya team and volunteers.
  • Build co-operation with government and non-governmental wildlife organisations;
  • Work with our project partners in the delivery of joint projects;
  • Help manage the in-country relationship with our corporate partners;
  • Identify potential new wildlife conservation and welfare opportunities and partners that fit our strategic objectives for possible incorporation in our future plans;
  • Collaborate with the UK Programmes Manager to develop funding opportunities from relevant development and donor agencies;
  • Provide day-to-day management and support to the Marketing & Communications Executive in delivering the Marketing and Communications Plan;
  • Ensure the sound administration and management of the Born Free Kenya office, its staff, equipment and vehicles in compliance with Born Free policies;
  • Ensure the timely production of accurate, regular reports, images and articles about programme activity in the format required by donors and the UK Head Office;
  • Ensure regular, detailed and accurate communication with the relevant staff in UK Head Office concerning progress against approved plans, activities and opportunities.

Remuneration: 
Commensurate with the seniority of the position. 
Includes: private health cover, accident insurance, paid holiday and contributory pension scheme.
