Remember this? CABS is again providing support for the Bonnelli's Eagle nest protection operation in Sicily. We are looking this year for volunteers to take part for one or two weeks from 1 April to 31 May 2013. Last year the operation was conducted solely by Italian volunteers. This year we are looking for more international participation (Malta for example - just over the water!). At present we are lookin for a sponsor to cover travel costs from abroad (only some 1,000 €!) but this cannot be guaranteed. We can only offer volunteers at present 30,00 € or equivalent toward travel costs and free basic (italian rural) accommodation. But who can turn down the prospect of a week or two top birdwatching in fabulous scenery, and at the same time protecting this rare eagle population.
Anyone prepared to help financially towards volunteers costs please contact me as well.
Our project manager writes:
"The camp starts from the 1°of April. There are several spots to keep under control. We are entrusted with two, one is near to Palermo, the other one is still "secret". You can choose dates as you wish, since there is a lot of availability. We provide accomodation and at the moment we can only offer a basic refund for travel costs (30 € per volunteer). We would appreciate a minimum stay of 6-7 days per volunteer, since we have 2 months or more and two places.
The plan is to spend the day on the site (in a team of two) and watch over it. If someone approaches the site, you will have contacts with the coordinator of the project.
I know it can be boring and a little lonesome, but it is crucial for our last bonelli's and the lanscape and sightings are great..."
