Conservation International, the Pew Charitable Trusts, and other private and public partners have joined together to launch the Blue Nature Alliance (the Alliance) with the aim to catalyze actions to conserve 18 million square kilometers of ocean (approximately 5 percent of the global ocean) to safeguard global ocean biodiversity, build resilience to climate change, promote human wellbeing, and enhance ecosystem connectivity and function.

The Blue Nature Alliance Coordinator will be part of a fast-paced, collaborative, and dynamic team that aims to make outsized impact for the ocean. The Blue Nature Alliance Coordinator provides administrative, research and project support to Blue Nature Alliance leadership in the Center for Oceans at Conservation International as well as to the broader Blue Nature Alliance multi-institutional team as needed.

The ideal candidate is a committed conservationist with the ability to make independent judgments related to administrative matters and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with all levels of management both inside and outside of CI. This position requires excellent administrative skills, superior relationship-building skills, ability to multi-task and an ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the highest degree of professionalism. This may include organizing conference calls, meetings, trainings, workshops, social events and manage agendas, logistics, minutes, reporting and processing travel reimbursements and related expenses.

The employee will support project implementation, including conducting secondary research (literature reviews) and drafting status reports and/or presentations. The employee will assist with project monitoring, compiling data, and maintaining the Alliance’s data and knowledge management system.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Alliance Support

  • Conduct literature reviews and research into potential Alliance sites;
  • Support the creation of KeyNote or PowerPoint presentations;
  • Coordinate donor reporting, including editing and formatting reports;
  • Maintain the Alliance data and knowledge management system.
  • Meeting and Workshop Support: 
  • Support planning on Alliance meetings and workshops, including venue rental, travel logistics, organizing vendors and suppliers.

Administrative Support

  • Support travel logistics for key Alliance staff;
  • Support calendar alignment of staff;
  • Expense processing.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Typical office environment. May need to work extended hours or travel internationally as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • 2 - 4 years of related experience, preferably in the conservation, NGO, or advocacy arena.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Solid attention to detail and proofreading skills.  
  •  Ability to function well in a multicultural, diverse, and fast-paced work team environment.
  • Comfortable managing multiple duties and adapting to changing priorities.
  • Service focus. Courteous, tactful, and proven ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to work under general supervision and take initiative to solve problems under supervisor direction.
  • Positive attitude and ability to overcome obstacles to achieve ambitious targets

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree or up to four years of college-level work
  • Passion for nature and preferably the ocean     
  • Technical knowledge of ocean policy, science, and/or Marine Protected Areas
  • Experience working or living internationally
  • Proficiency and experience working with Microsoft Office collaboration tools
  • Fluency in French, Portuguese, Spanish, or other languages.
